No. 574 5 1999-2000 6 REPRESENTATIVE KREBS-CALVERT 8 _________________________________________________________________ 9 A B I L L To create a joint legislative committee to study the 11 impact of high technology start-up businesses on 12 economic development and small businesses in Ohio. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO: 14 Section 1. Within thirty days after the effective date of 16 this act, a joint legislative committee shall be appointed to 17 study the impact of high technology start-up businesses on 18 economic development and small businesses in this state and 19 certain other matters. The committee shall consist of eleven 21 members as follows: three members from the House of Representatives, two of whom shall be appointed by the Speaker of 22 the House of Representatives and one of whom shall be appointed 23 by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives; three 25 members from the Senate, two of whom shall be appointed by the 27 President of the Senate and one of whom shall be appointed by the 28 Minority Leader of the Senate; four members appointed by the 29 Governor, three of whom shall represent a different private 30 business association in the state, and one of whom shall 31 represent an Ohio labor organization; and the Director of 32 Development. The Director of Development shall serve as the 33 chair of the committee. The committee shall examine how to retain high technology 35 start-up businesses in the state, the factors motivating these 36 businesses to locate in the state or to relocate out of the 37 state, and the overall impact of these businesses on economic 38 2 development and small businesses in Ohio. The committee shall 39 submit a report along with its recommendations based on the study 40 to the General Assembly by July 1, 2001. Upon submitting its 41 report and recommendations, the committee shall cease to exist. 43
