A BILL
To enact section 5.014 of the Revised Code to 1
establish a recommended procedure for folding the 2
state flag.3

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That section 5.014 of the Revised Code be enacted 4
to read as follows:5

Sec. 5.014. The general assembly hereby establishes a 6
recommended procedure for the folding of the state flag by two 7
people. The procedure is as follows:8

With the flag unfolded, fold the flag in half lengthwise so 9
that the points of the flag are aligned. Fold the flag in half 10
lengthwise a second time to form a long strip with the red disc 11
facing the ground. Next, fold the pointed end back onto itself to 12
form a rectangle. These steps entail three folds.13

Starting on the end formed by the fold of the pointed end 14
back onto itself, fold two inches of the flag onto itself for a 15
flag with a three-foot hoist and a five-foot fly, or another 16
appropriate width of fold for a flag of a different size. Repeat 17
the folds a total of fourteen times, alternating the folds in a 18
fan-like manner.19

The result is a total of seventeen folds symbolizing that 20
Ohio was the seventeenth state admitted to the union. Finally, 21
neatly and snugly wrap the remaining length of flag around the 22
fan-folds to form a compact rectangle.23
