To enact section 5533.241 of the Revised Code to | 1 |
designate Interstate Route 75 as the "Pearl Harbor | 2 |
Memorial Highway" and to require the Director of | 3 |
Transportation, when possible, to erect markers | 4 |
along the highway. | 5 |
Section 1. That section 5533.241 of the Revised Code be | 6 |
enacted to read as follows: | 7 |
Sec. 5533.241. (A) In addition to the designation in section | 8 |
5533.24 of the Revised Code, the road known as interstate route | 9 |
seventy-five, running in a southerly direction from the city of | 10 |
Toledo in Lucas county, through the counties of Wood, Hancock, | 11 |
Allen, Auglaize, Shelby, Miami, Montgomery, and Warren to the city | 12 |
of Cincinnati in Hamilton county, also shall be known as the | 13 |
"Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway." | 14 |
(B) To the extent possible while conforming with applicable | 15 |
federal signage guidelines and standards, the director of | 16 |
transportation shall erect suitable white markers with blue | 17 |
lettering upon such highway that do the following: | 18 |
(1) Indicate the name of the highway; | 19 |
(2) Are located near Toledo, Lima, Dayton, and Cincinnati; | 20 |
(3) Contain the seal of the Pearl Harbor survivors | 21 |
association; | 22 |
(4) State both "Remember Pearl Harbor - Keep America Alert" | 23 |
and "In memory of the 2,403 Americans killed by naval and air | 24 |
forces of the Empire of Japan on December 7, 1941." | 25 |
(C) The department of transportation may accept private | 26 |
contributions to pay all or part of the costs of manufacturing, | 27 |
erecting, and maintaining the markers. Any private money received | 28 |
by the department for the purposes of this section shall be | 29 |
deposited in the state treasury to the credit of the state highway | 30 |
operating fund or any other fund of the department as determined | 31 |
by the director. | 32 |
