A BILL
To amend section 1901.02 of the Revised Code to 1
clarify that the former township of Northampton is 2
no longer within the jurisdiction of the Akron 3
Municipal Court.4


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1.  That section 1901.02 of the Revised Code be 5
amended to read as follows:6

       Sec. 1901.02.  (A) The municipal courts established by7
section 1901.01 of the Revised Code have jurisdiction within the8
corporate limits of their respective municipal corporations, or,9
for the Clermont county municipal court, within the municipal10
corporation or unincorporated territory in which it is11
established, and are courts of record. Each of the courts shall be 12
styled ".................................. municipal court,"13
inserting the name of the municipal corporation, except the14
following courts, which shall be styled as set forth below:15

       (1) The municipal court established in Chesapeake that shall16
be styled and known as the "Lawrence county municipal court";17

       (2) The municipal court established in Cincinnati that shall18
be styled and known as the "Hamilton county municipal court";19

       (3) The municipal court established in Ravenna that shall be20
styled and known as the "Portage county municipal court";21

       (4) The municipal court established in Athens that shall be22
styled and known as the "Athens county municipal court";23

       (5) The municipal court established in Columbus that shall be 24
styled and known as the "Franklin county municipal court";25

       (6) The municipal court established in London that shall be26
styled and known as the "Madison county municipal court";27

       (7) The municipal court established in Newark that shall be28
styled and known as the "Licking county municipal court";29

       (8) The municipal court established in Wooster that shall be30
styled and known as the "Wayne county municipal court";31

       (9) The municipal court established in Wapakoneta that shall32
be styled and known as the "Auglaize county municipal court";33

       (10) The municipal court established in Troy that shall be34
styled and known as the "Miami county municipal court";35

       (11) The municipal court established in Bucyrus that shall be 36
styled and known as the "Crawford county municipal court";37

       (12) The municipal court established in Logan that shall be38
styled and known as the "Hocking county municipal court";39

       (13) The municipal court established in Urbana that shall be40
styled and known as the "Champaign county municipal court";41

       (14) The municipal court established in Jackson that shall be 42
styled and known as the "Jackson county municipal court";43

       (15) The municipal court established in Springfield that44
shall be styled and known as the "Clark county municipal court";45

       (16) The municipal court established in Kenton that shall be46
styled and known as the "Hardin county municipal court";47

       (17) The municipal court established within Clermont county48
in Batavia or in any other municipal corporation or unincorporated49
territory within Clermont county that is selected by the50
legislative authority of that court that shall be styled and known51
as the "Clermont county municipal court";52

       (18) The municipal court established in Wilmington that,53
beginning July 1, 1992, shall be styled and known as the "Clinton54
county municipal court";55

       (19) The municipal court established in Port Clinton that56
shall be styled and known as "the Ottawa county municipal court";57

       (20) The municipal court established in Lancaster that,58
beginning January 2, 2000, shall be styled and known as the59
"Fairfield county municipal court";60

       (21) The municipal court established within Columbiana county 61
in Lisbon or in any other municipal corporation or unincorporated62
territory selected pursuant to division (I) of section 1901.021 of 63
the Revised Code, that shall be styled and known as the 64
"Columbiana county municipal court";65

       (22) The municipal court established in Georgetown that,66
beginning February 9, 2003, shall be styled and known as the67
"Brown county municipal court";68

       (23) The municipal court established in Mount Gilead that,69
beginning January 1, 2003, shall be styled and known as the70
"Morrow county municipal court";71

       (24) The municipal court established in Greenville that, 72
beginning January 1, 2005, shall be styled and known as the "Darke 73
county municipal court."74

       (B) In addition to the jurisdiction set forth in division (A) 75
of this section, the municipal courts established by section76
1901.01 of the Revised Code have jurisdiction as follows:77

       The Akron municipal court has jurisdiction within Bath,78
Northampton, Richfield, and Springfield townships, and within the79
municipal corporations of Fairlawn, Lakemore, and Mogadore, in80
Summit county.81

       The Alliance municipal court has jurisdiction within82
Lexington, Marlboro, Paris, and Washington townships in Stark83
county.84

       The Ashland municipal court has jurisdiction within Ashland85
county.86

       The Ashtabula municipal court has jurisdiction within87
Ashtabula, Plymouth, and Saybrook townships in Ashtabula county.88

       The Athens county municipal court has jurisdiction within89
Athens county.90

       The Auglaize county municipal court has jurisdiction within91
Auglaize county.92

       The Avon Lake municipal court has jurisdiction within the93
municipal corporations of Avon and Sheffield in Lorain county.94

       The Barberton municipal court has jurisdiction within95
Coventry, Franklin, and Green townships, within all of Copley96
township except within the municipal corporation of Fairlawn, and97
within the municipal corporations of Clinton and Norton, in Summit98
county.99

       The Bedford municipal court has jurisdiction within the100
municipal corporations of Bedford Heights, Oakwood, Glenwillow,101
Solon, Bentleyville, Chagrin Falls, Moreland Hills, Orange,102
Warrensville Heights, North Randall, and Woodmere, and within103
Warrensville and Chagrin Falls townships, in Cuyahoga county.104

       The Bellefontaine municipal court has jurisdiction within105
Logan county.106

       The Bellevue municipal court has jurisdiction within Lyme and107
Sherman townships in Huron county and within York township in108
Sandusky county.109

       The Berea municipal court has jurisdiction within the110
municipal corporations of Strongsville, Middleburgh Heights, Brook111
Park, Westview, and Olmsted Falls, and within Olmsted township, in112
Cuyahoga county.113

       The Bowling Green municipal court has jurisdiction within the114
municipal corporations of Bairdstown, Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar,115
Cygnet, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Hoytville, Jerry City, Milton116
Center, North Baltimore, Pemberville, Portage, Rising Sun,117
Tontogany, Wayne, and Weston, and within Bloom, Center, Freedom,118
Grand Rapids, Henry, Jackson, Liberty, Middleton, Milton,119
Montgomery, Plain, Portage, Washington, Webster, and Weston120
townships in Wood county.121

       Beginning February 9, 2003, the Brown county municipal court122
has jurisdiction within Brown county.123

       The Bryan municipal court has jurisdiction within Williams124
county.125

       The Cambridge municipal court has jurisdiction within126
Guernsey county.127

       The Campbell municipal court has jurisdiction within128
Coitsville township in Mahoning county.129

       The Canton municipal court has jurisdiction within Canton,130
Lake, Nimishillen, Osnaburg, Pike, Plain, and Sandy townships in131
Stark county.132

       The Celina municipal court has jurisdiction within Mercer133
county.134

       The Champaign county municipal court has jurisdiction within135
Champaign county.136

       The Chardon municipal court has jurisdiction within Geauga137
county.138

       The Chillicothe municipal court has jurisdiction within Ross139
county.140

       The Circleville municipal court has jurisdiction within141
Pickaway county.142

       The Clark county municipal court has jurisdiction within143
Clark county.144

       The Clermont county municipal court has jurisdiction within145
Clermont county.146

       The Cleveland municipal court has jurisdiction within the147
municipal corporation of Bratenahl in Cuyahoga county.148

       Beginning July 1, 1992, the Clinton county municipal court149
has jurisdiction within Clinton county.150

       The Columbiana county municipal court has jurisdiction within151
all of Columbiana county except within the municipal corporation152
of East Liverpool and except within Liverpool and St. Clair153
townships.154

       The Coshocton municipal court has jurisdiction within155
Coshocton county.156

       The Crawford county municipal court has jurisdiction within157
Crawford county.158

       The Cuyahoga Falls municipal court has jurisdiction within159
Boston, Hudson, Northfield Center, Sagamore Hills, and Twinsburg160
townships, and within the municipal corporations of Boston161
Heights, Hudson, Munroe Falls, Northfield, Peninsula,162
Reminderville, Silver Lake, Stow, Tallmadge, Twinsburg, and163
Macedonia, in Summit county.164

       Beginning January 1, 2005, the Darke county municipal court 165
has jurisdiction within Darke county except within the municipal 166
corporation of Bradford.167

       The Defiance municipal court has jurisdiction within Defiance168
county.169

       The Delaware municipal court has jurisdiction within Delaware170
county.171

       The East Liverpool municipal court has jurisdiction within172
Liverpool and St. Clair townships in Columbiana county.173

       The Eaton municipal court has jurisdiction within Preble174
county.175

       The Elyria municipal court has jurisdiction within the176
municipal corporations of Grafton, LaGrange, and North Ridgeville,177
and within Elyria, Carlisle, Eaton, Columbia, Grafton, and178
LaGrange townships, in Lorain county.179

       The Fairborn municipal court has jurisdiction within the180
municipal corporation of Beavercreek and within Bath and181
Beavercreek townships in Greene county.182

       Beginning January 2, 2000, the Fairfield county municipal183
court has jurisdiction within Fairfield county.184

       The Findlay municipal court has jurisdiction within all of185
Hancock county except within Washington township.186

       The Fostoria municipal court has jurisdiction within Loudon187
and Jackson townships in Seneca county, within Washington township188
in Hancock county, and within Perry township in Wood county.189

       The Franklin municipal court has jurisdiction within Franklin190
township in Warren county.191

       The Franklin county municipal court has jurisdiction within192
Franklin county.193

       The Fremont municipal court has jurisdiction within Ballville194
and Sandusky townships in Sandusky county.195

       The Gallipolis municipal court has jurisdiction within Gallia196
county.197

       The Garfield Heights municipal court has jurisdiction within198
the municipal corporations of Maple Heights, Walton Hills, Valley199
View, Cuyahoga Heights, Newburgh Heights, Independence, and200
Brecksville in Cuyahoga county.201

       The Girard municipal court has jurisdiction within Liberty,202
Vienna, and Hubbard townships in Trumbull county.203

       The Hamilton municipal court has jurisdiction within Ross and204
St. Clair townships in Butler county.205

       The Hamilton county municipal court has jurisdiction within206
Hamilton county.207

       The Hardin county municipal court has jurisdiction within208
Hardin county.209

       The Hillsboro municipal court has jurisdiction within all of210
Highland county except within Madison township.211

       The Hocking county municipal court has jurisdiction within212
Hocking county.213

       The Huron municipal court has jurisdiction within all of214
Huron township in Erie county except within the municipal215
corporation of Sandusky.216

       The Ironton municipal court has jurisdiction within Aid,217
Decatur, Elizabeth, Hamilton, Lawrence, Upper, and Washington218
townships in Lawrence county.219

       The Jackson county municipal court has jurisdiction within220
Jackson county.221

       The Kettering municipal court has jurisdiction within the222
municipal corporations of Centerville and Moraine, and within223
Washington township, in Montgomery county.224

       Until January 2, 2000, the Lancaster municipal court has225
jurisdiction within Fairfield county.226

       The Lawrence county municipal court has jurisdiction within227
the townships of Fayette, Mason, Perry, Rome, Symmes, Union, and228
Windsor in Lawrence county.229

       The Lebanon municipal court has jurisdiction within230
Turtlecreek township in Warren county.231

       The Licking county municipal court has jurisdiction within232
Licking county.233

       The Lima municipal court has jurisdiction within Allen234
county.235

       The Lorain municipal court has jurisdiction within the236
municipal corporation of Sheffield Lake, and within Sheffield237
township, in Lorain county.238

       The Lyndhurst municipal court has jurisdiction within the239
municipal corporations of Mayfield Heights, Gates Mills, Mayfield,240
Highland Heights, and Richmond Heights in Cuyahoga county.241

       The Madison county municipal court has jurisdiction within242
Madison county.243

       The Mansfield municipal court has jurisdiction within244
Madison, Springfield, Sandusky, Franklin, Weller, Mifflin, Troy,245
Washington, Monroe, Perry, Jefferson, and Worthington townships,246
and within sections 35-36-31 and 32 of Butler township, in247
Richland county.248

       The Marietta municipal court has jurisdiction within249
Washington county.250

       The Marion municipal court has jurisdiction within Marion251
county.252

       The Marysville municipal court has jurisdiction within Union253
county.254

       The Mason municipal court has jurisdiction within Deerfield255
township in Warren county.256

       The Massillon municipal court has jurisdiction within257
Bethlehem, Perry, Sugar Creek, Tuscarawas, Lawrence, and Jackson258
townships in Stark county.259

       The Maumee municipal court has jurisdiction within the260
municipal corporations of Waterville and Whitehouse, within261
Waterville and Providence townships, and within those portions of262
Springfield, Monclova, and Swanton townships lying south of the263
northerly boundary line of the Ohio turnpike, in Lucas county.264

       The Medina municipal court has jurisdiction within the265
municipal corporations of Briarwood Beach, Brunswick,266
Chippewa-on-the-Lake, and Spencer and within the townships of267
Brunswick Hills, Chatham, Granger, Hinckley, Lafayette,268
Litchfield, Liverpool, Medina, Montville, Spencer, and York269
townships, in Medina county.270

       The Mentor municipal court has jurisdiction within the271
municipal corporation of Mentor-on-the-Lake in Lake county.272

       The Miami county municipal court has jurisdiction within273
Miami county and within the part of the municipal corporation of274
Bradford that is located in Darke county.275

       The Miamisburg municipal court has jurisdiction within the276
municipal corporations of Germantown and West Carrollton, and277
within German and Miami townships in Montgomery county.278

       The Middletown municipal court has jurisdiction within279
Madison township, and within all of Lemon township, except within280
the municipal corporation of Monroe, in Butler county.281

       Beginning January 1, 2003, the Morrow county municipal court282
has jurisdiction within Morrow county.283

       The Mount Vernon municipal court has jurisdiction within Knox284
county.285

       The Napoleon municipal court has jurisdiction within Henry286
county.287

       The New Philadelphia municipal court has jurisdiction within288
the municipal corporation of Dover, and within Auburn, Bucks,289
Fairfield, Goshen, Jefferson, Warren, York, Dover, Franklin,290
Lawrence, Sandy, Sugarcreek, and Wayne townships in Tuscarawas291
county.292

       The Newton Falls municipal court has jurisdiction within293
Bristol, Bloomfield, Lordstown, Newton, Braceville, Southington,294
Farmington, and Mesopotamia townships in Trumbull county.295

       The Niles municipal court has jurisdiction within the296
municipal corporation of McDonald, and within Weathersfield297
township in Trumbull county.298

       The Norwalk municipal court has jurisdiction within all of299
Huron county except within the municipal corporation of Bellevue300
and except within Lyme and Sherman townships.301

       The Oberlin municipal court has jurisdiction within the302
municipal corporations of Amherst, Kipton, Rochester, South303
Amherst, and Wellington, and within Henrietta, Russia, Camden,304
Pittsfield, Brighton, Wellington, Penfield, Rochester, and305
Huntington townships, and within all of Amherst township except306
within the municipal corporation of Lorain, in Lorain county.307

       The Oregon municipal court has jurisdiction within the308
municipal corporation of Harbor View, and within Jerusalem309
township, in Lucas county, and north within Maumee Bay and Lake310
Erie to the boundary line between Ohio and Michigan between the311
easterly boundary of the court and the easterly boundary of the312
Toledo municipal court.313

       The Ottawa county municipal court has jurisdiction within314
Ottawa county.315

       The Painesville municipal court has jurisdiction within316
Painesville, Perry, Leroy, Concord, and Madison townships in Lake317
county.318

       The Parma municipal court has jurisdiction within the319
municipal corporations of Parma Heights, Brooklyn, Linndale, North320
Royalton, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills, and Brooklyn Heights in321
Cuyahoga county.322

       The Perrysburg municipal court has jurisdiction within the323
municipal corporations of Luckey, Millbury, Northwood, Rossford,324
and Walbridge, and within Perrysburg, Lake, and Troy townships, in325
Wood county.326

       The Portage county municipal court has jurisdiction within327
Portage county.328

       The Portsmouth municipal court has jurisdiction within Scioto329
county.330

       The Rocky River municipal court has jurisdiction within the331
municipal corporations of Bay Village, Westlake, Fairview Park,332
and North Olmsted, and within Riveredge township, in Cuyahoga333
county.334

       The Sandusky municipal court has jurisdiction within the335
municipal corporations of Castalia and Bay View, and within336
Perkins township, in Erie county.337

       The Shaker Heights municipal court has jurisdiction within338
the municipal corporations of University Heights, Beachwood,339
Pepper Pike, and Hunting Valley in Cuyahoga county.340

       The Shelby municipal court has jurisdiction within Sharon,341
Jackson, Cass, Plymouth, and Blooming Grove townships, and within342
all of Butler township except sections 35-36-31 and 32, in343
Richland county.344

       The Sidney municipal court has jurisdiction within Shelby345
county.346

       The Struthers municipal court has jurisdiction within the347
municipal corporations of Lowellville, New Middleton, and Poland,348
and within Poland and Springfield townships in Mahoning county.349

       The Sylvania municipal court has jurisdiction within the350
municipal corporations of Berkey and Holland, and within Sylvania,351
Richfield, Spencer, and Harding townships, and within those352
portions of Swanton, Monclova, and Springfield townships lying353
north of the northerly boundary line of the Ohio turnpike, in354
Lucas county.355

       The Tiffin municipal court has jurisdiction within Adams, Big356
Spring, Bloom, Clinton, Eden, Hopewell, Liberty, Pleasant, Reed,357
Scipio, Seneca, Thompson, and Venice townships in Seneca county.358

       The Toledo municipal court has jurisdiction within Washington359
township, and within the municipal corporation of Ottawa Hills, in360
Lucas county.361

       The Upper Sandusky municipal court has jurisdiction within362
Wyandot county.363

       The Vandalia municipal court has jurisdiction within the364
municipal corporations of Clayton, Englewood, and Union, and365
within Butler, Harrison, and Randolph townships, in Montgomery366
county.367

       The Van Wert municipal court has jurisdiction within Van Wert368
county.369

       The Vermilion municipal court has jurisdiction within the370
townships of Vermilion and Florence in Erie county and within all371
of Brownhelm township except within the municipal corporation of372
Lorain, in Lorain county.373

       The Wadsworth municipal court has jurisdiction within the374
municipal corporations of Gloria Glens Park, Lodi, Seville, and375
Westfield Center, and within Guilford, Harrisville, Homer, Sharon,376
Wadsworth, and Westfield townships in Medina county.377

       The Warren municipal court has jurisdiction within Warren and378
Champion townships, and within all of Howland township except379
within the municipal corporation of Niles, in Trumbull county.380

       The Washington Court House municipal court has jurisdiction381
within Fayette county.382

       The Wayne county municipal court has jurisdiction within383
Wayne county.384

       The Willoughby municipal court has jurisdiction within the385
municipal corporations of Eastlake, Wickliffe, Willowick,386
Willoughby Hills, Kirtland, Kirtland Hills, Waite Hill,387
Timberlake, and Lakeline, and within Kirtland township, in Lake388
county.389

       Through June 30, 1992, the Wilmington municipal court has390
jurisdiction within Clinton county.391

       The Xenia municipal court has jurisdiction within392
Caesarcreek, Cedarville, Jefferson, Miami, New Jasper, Ross,393
Silvercreek, Spring Valley, Sugarcreek, and Xenia townships in394
Greene county.395

       (C) As used in this section:396

       (1) "Within a township" includes all land, including, but not 397
limited to, any part of any municipal corporation, that is398
physically located within the territorial boundaries of that399
township, whether or not that land or municipal corporation is400
governmentally a part of the township.401

       (2) "Within a municipal corporation" includes all land within 402
the territorial boundaries of the municipal corporation and any 403
townships that are coextensive with the municipal corporation.404

       Section 2. That existing section 1901.02 of the Revised Code 405
is hereby repealed.406
