A BILL

To enact section 3345.36 of the Revised Code to 1
require each state institution of higher education 2
to develop a plan for responding to threats or 3
acts of violence on campus. 4

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 3345.36 of the Revised Code be 5
enacted to read as follows: 6

       Sec. 3345.36. (A) As used in this section, "state institution 7
of higher education" has the same meaning as in section 3345.011 8
of the Revised Code. 9

        (B) Each state institution of higher education, in 10
consultation with law enforcement personnel and other emergency 11
response personnel, shall develop a comprehensive plan, or 12
reevaluate and update an existing plan, for responding to serious 13
threats or emergencies on campus involving a person possessing a 14
deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance, as defined in section 2923.11 15
of the Revised Code, or other act of violence. The plan shall 16
include the following: 17

       (1) Procedures for notifying appropriate law enforcement 18
personnel and other emergency response personnel; 19

       (2) Procedures for providing information about the threats or 20
emergencies to students and employees in a timely and efficient 21
manner. 22

        (C) Each institution shall submit its plan to the chancellor 23
of the Ohio board of regents for informational purposes prior to 24
the institution's first term of the 2007-2008 academic year. The 25
institution shall update its plan as necessary to reflect changing 26
campus conditions and shall submit the updated plan to the 27
chancellor in a timely manner. 28

Section 1. That section 3345.36 of the Revised Code be	5
