| To enact section 3701.136 of the Revised Code to | 1 |
| create the Xeroderma Pigmentosum Research | 2 |
| Commission. | 3 |
| Section 1. That section 3701.136 of the Revised Code be | 4 |
| enacted to read as follows: | 5 |
| Sec. 3701.136. (A) There is hereby created the xeroderma | 6 |
| pigmentosum research commission consisting of members appointed by | 7 |
| the director of health. Members shall include researchers, health | 8 |
| care professionals, and persons personally affected by the | 9 |
| disease. | 10 |
| (B) Not later than ninety days after the effective date of | 11 |
| this section, the director shall make initial appointments to the | 12 |
| commission. Terms of office shall be three years, with each term | 13 |
| ending on the same day of the same month as did the term that it | 14 |
| succeeds. Each member shall hold office from the date of | 15 |
| appointment until the end of the term for which the member was | 16 |
| appointed. Members may be reappointed. | 17 |
| Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as original | 18 |
| appointments. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring | 19 |
| prior to the expiration of the term for which the member's | 20 |
| predecessor was appointed shall hold office for the remainder of | 21 |
| that term. A member shall continue in office subsequent to the | 22 |
| expiration date of the member's term until the member's successor | 23 |
| takes office or until a period of sixty days has elapsed, | 24 |
| whichever occurs first. | 25 |
| (C) The commission shall annually select from among its | 26 |
| members a chairperson. The commission shall meet at the call of | 27 |
| the chair, but not less than twice each year. A majority of the | 28 |
| members constitutes a quorum. | 29 |
| (D) Members shall serve without compensation, but may be | 30 |
| reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the | 31 |
| performance of their duties. | 32 |
| (E) The commission shall assist the director of health and | 33 |
| research community in seeking a cure for xeroderma pigmentosum. | 34 |
