To enact section 2921.53 of the Revised Code to | 1 |
prohibit the purchase or sale of a peace officer's | 2 |
uniform unless the purchaser shows required | 3 |
identification and authorization. | 4 |
Section 1. That section 2921.53 of the Revised Code be | 5 |
enacted to read as follows: | 6 |
Sec. 2921.53. (A) As used in this section: | 7 |
(1) "Peace officer" has the same meaning as in section | 8 |
2921.51 of the Revised Code. | 9 |
(2) "Uniform" means all or any part of a uniform, including a | 10 |
shield, badge, number, or other identifying insignia or emblem. | 11 |
(B) No person shall sell or purchase the uniform of any peace | 12 |
officer unless at the time of sale the purchaser presents to the | 13 |
seller both of the following: | 14 |
(1) A current identification card that is issued by the law | 15 |
enforcement agency that employs the purchaser, that shows that the | 16 |
purchaser is employed by the law enforcement agency, and that | 17 |
bears a photograph of the purchaser; | 18 |
(2) A letter on the letterhead of the law enforcement agency | 19 |
that employs the purchaser that authorizes the purchase of the | 20 |
uniform and that is dated and signed by the highest ranking | 21 |
officer of the law enforcement agency. | 22 |
(C) Whoever violates division (B) of this section is guilty | 23 |
of the unlawful sale or purchase of a peace officer's uniform, a | 24 |
misdemeanor of the fourth degree. | 25 |
