4503.762, 4503.92, 5533.051, 5533.092, 5533.101, 5533.251, 22

5533.681, 5533.682, 5533.683, 5533.684, and 5533.92 of the Revised 24
Code be enacted to read as follows:25

Sec. 5.081. The fruit, Lycopersicon esculentus, commonly 26
known as the tomato, is hereby adopted as the state fruit.27

Sec. 5.082. The fruit, Asimina triloba, commonly known as the 28

Sec. 5.2241. The month of January is designated as 30
"Fibromyalgia Awareness Month."31

Sec. 5.2242. The sixth day of February is designated as 32
"Ronald Reagan Day," in honor of the birthday of the fortieth 33
president of the United States.34

Sec. 5.2243. The calendar week including the eighth day of 35
February is designated as "Ohio Boy Scout Week."36

Sec. 5.2244. The month of February is designated as "Black 37
History Month" to honor and recognize the contributions that 38
African Americans have made in the history of this state and the 39
United States.40

Sec. 5.2245. The month of May is designated as "Nurses Month" 41
in recognition of the hard work and dedication of nurses and their 42
significant contributions in improving the health care of the 43
citizens of this state.44

In enacting this section, it is the intent of the general 45
assembly to acknowledge and celebrate the nurses of this state. 46
Although nurses practice their profession in a wide variety of 47
settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, other health care 48
facilities, physician's offices, schools, and even private homes, 49
the contributions made by the nursing profession in the 50
improvement of the health care system are sometimes overlooked. 51
Therefore, the general assembly feels that it is vitally important 52
that a month be formally designated as "Nurses Month" for the 53
purpose of increasing public awareness of the role nurses play in 54
the health and well-being of all Ohioans.55

Sec. 5.2246. The month of May is designated as "Melanoma/Skin 56
Cancer Detection and Prevention Month."57

slaves in the United States were set free in Texas, has come to 61
symbolize.62

Sec. 5.2248. The third Saturday in August is designated as 63
"Brothers and Sisters' Day" to honor and recognize siblings.64

Sec. 5.2249. The first Saturday following the first Monday in 65
September is designated as "Lithopolis Honeyfest Day," to honor 66
the annual honey festival held on that day in the village of 67
Lithopolis in Fairfield county.68

Sec. 5.2250. The third week of September is designated as 69
"Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week" to raise awareness of the 70
existence of mitochondrial disease and its symptoms.71

Sec. 5.2251. The fourth Sunday in September is designated as 72
"Internet Safety Day."73

Sec. 5.2252. The month of September is designated as "Brain 74
Aneurysm Awareness Month" to increase public awareness and 75
understanding of brain aneurysms, including methods of early 76
detection and treatment.77

It is the intent of the general assembly in enacting this 78
section to increase public awareness and understanding of brain 79
aneurysms. The general assembly feels that it is vitally 80
important that the state designate September as "Brain Aneurysm 81
Awareness Month." According to the brain aneurysm foundation, 82
brain aneurysms afflict approximately two per cent of Americans, 83
most commonly those aged thirty-five to sixty years. The state 84
encourages and commends private efforts, including those of the 85
brain aneurysm foundation, to enhance funding for aneurysm 86
research, provide educational materials and programs, and create a 87
support network for patients, survivors, and their families.88

Sec. 5.2253. The month of September is hereby designated as 89
"Ohio Preparedness Month" to highlight the importance of 90

Sec. 5.2255. The month of September is designated as "Ovarian 96
Cancer Awareness Month."97

Sec. 5.2256. The twenty-second day of October shall be 98
designated "U.S.S. Hocking Day," in honor of the distinguished 99
career of the U.S.S. Hocking, a World War II attack transport 100
ship, the navy crew who served on it, and the marines who were 101
carried into battle on it.102

Sec. 5.2257. The month of October is designated as "Crime 103
Prevention Month."104

Sec. 5.2258. The month of October is designated as 105

Sec. 5.2259. The Saturday immediately preceding Thanksgiving 109
day is designated as "Adoption Day."110

Sec. 5.2260. The month of November is designated as "Epilepsy 111
Awareness Month" to increase public awareness and understanding of 112
epilepsy.113

It is the intent of the general assembly in enacting this 114
section to increase public awareness and understanding of 115
epilepsy. The general assembly considers it vitally important 116
that the state join with the epilepsy foundation in formally 117
designating November as "Epilepsy Awareness Month." According to 118
the United States centers for disease control and prevention 119
(CDC), epilepsy currently affects approximately 2.7 million 120
Americans - roughly one of every one hundred individuals - with as 121
many as 180,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Epilepsy afflicts 122
people of all ages, but especially the very young and the 123
elderly. The CDC estimates that about ten per cent of Americans 124
will experience a seizure during their lifetime, and about three 125
per cent will be diagnosed with epilepsy by age eighty.126

Sec. 5.2261. The month of November is designated as "Omega 127
Psi Phi Month."128

Sec. 5.2262. The twenty-first of December is designated 129
"Homeless Persons' Memorial Day" to bring attention to the tragedy 130
of homelessness. State and local governments, coalitions, and 131
other entities are encouraged to sponsor events to promote 132
awareness of the plight of the homeless and to identify actions 133
that individuals and organizations may take to address the 134
problem of homelessness.135

Sec. 5.2263. Calendar year 2008 is designated as the "Year of 136
the Veteran" to recognize the services and sacrifices of veterans.137

Sec. 5.2264. "Ohio Save for Retirement Week" is designated 138
