A BILL
To enact sections 4503.548 and 4503.549 of the 1
Revised Code to create the Vietnam Combat 2
Infantry and Combat Medic license plates.3


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That sections 4503.548 and 4503.549 of the Revised 4
Code be enacted to read as follows:5

       Sec. 4503.548. (A) Any person who served in the armed forces 6
of the United States during the Vietnam conflict and was awarded 7
the combat infantryman badge may apply to the registrar of motor 8
vehicles for the registration of any passenger car, noncommercial 9
motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, or other vehicle of a class 10
approved by the registrar that the person owns or leases. The 11
application shall be accompanied by such documentary evidence in 12
support of the award as the registrar may require. The application 13
may be combined with a request for a special reserved license 14
plate under section 4503.40 or 4503.42 of the Revised Code.15

       Upon receipt of an application for registration of a motor 16
vehicle under this section and the required taxes and fees, and 17
upon presentation of the required supporting evidence of service 18
during the Vietnam conflict and the award of the combat 19
infantryman badge, the registrar shall issue to the applicant the 20
appropriate motor vehicle registration and a set of license 21
plates and a validation sticker, or a validation sticker alone 22
when required by section 4503.191 of the Revised Code.23

       In addition to the letters and numbers ordinarily inscribed 24
on license plates, the license plates shall be inscribed with the 25
words "combat infantry" and bear a reproduction of the combat 26
infantryman badge above the word "Vietnam." The license plates 27
shall bear county identification stickers that identify the 28
county of registration by name or number.29

       The license plates and a validation sticker or, when 30
applicable, a validation sticker alone shall be issued upon 31
payment of the regular license tax required by section 4503.04 of 32
the Revised Code, payment of any local motor vehicle license tax 33
levied under Chapter 4504. of the Revised Code, payment of any 34
applicable additional fee prescribed by section 4503.40 or 4503.42 35
of the Revised Code, and compliance with all other applicable laws 36
relating to the registration of motor vehicles.37

       (B) No person who did not serve during the Vietnam conflict 38
or is not a recipient of the combat infantryman badge shall 39
willfully and falsely represent that the person had such service 40
or is a recipient of the combat infantryman badge for the purpose 41
of obtaining license plates under this section. No person shall 42
own a motor vehicle bearing license plates issued under this 43
section unless the person is eligible to be issued those license 44
plates.45

       (C) Sections 4503.77 and 4503.78 of the Revised Code do not 46
apply to license plates issued under this section.47

       Sec. 4503.549. (A) Any person who served in the armed forces 48
of the United States during the Vietnam conflict and was awarded 49
the combat medical badge may apply to the registrar of motor 50
vehicles for the registration of any passenger car, noncommercial 51
motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, or other vehicle of a class 52
approved by the registrar that the person owns or leases. The 53
application shall be accompanied by such documentary evidence in 54
support of the award as the registrar may require. The application 55
may be combined with a request for a special reserved license 56
plate under section 4503.40 or 4503.42 of the Revised Code.57

       Upon receipt of an application for registration of a motor 58
vehicle under this section and the required taxes and fees, and 59
upon presentation of the required supporting evidence of service 60
during the Vietnam conflict and the award of the combat medical 61

obtaining license plates under this section. No person shall own 84
a motor vehicle bearing license plates issued under this section 85
unless the person is eligible to be issued those license plates.86

       (C) Sections 4503.77 and 4503.78 of the Revised Code do not 87
apply to license plates issued under this section.88
