(1) When the marriage of the natural or adoptive parents of | 10 |
the student has been terminated by a divorce, dissolution of | 11 |
marriage, or annulment or the natural or adoptive parents of the | 12 |
student are living separate and apart under a legal separation | 13 |
decree and the court has issued an order allocating the parental | 14 |
rights and responsibilities with respect to the student, "parent" | 15 |
means the residential parent as designated by the court except | 16 |
that "parent" means either parent when the court issues a shared | 17 |
parenting decree. | 18 |
(4) When the student is the subject of a power of attorney | 25 |
executed under sections 3109.51 to 3109.62 of the Revised Code, | 26 |
"parent" means the grandparent designated as attorney in fact | 27 |
under the power of attorney. When the student is the subject of a | 28 |
caretaker authorization affidavit executed under sections 3109.65 | 29 |
to 3109.73 of the Revised Code, "parent" means the grandparent | 30 |
who executed the affidavit. | 31 |
(C) The parent of each student enrolled in a school district | 38 |
to which this section applies shall attend, prior to the | 39 |
thirty-first day of December of the school year, at least one | 40 |
parent-teacher conference held by the school the student attends | 41 |
to meet the student's teachers. The conference shall provide an | 42 |
opportunity for the parent and the student's teachers to establish | 43 |
expectations of the student for the school year, discuss the | 44 |
student's
performance at school, and foster effective | 45 |
communication. In the case of a parent who has more than
one | 46 |
child enrolled in the district, the requirement of this
division | 47 |
shall apply separately with respect to each of the
parent's | 48 |
children so enrolled. | 49 |
(D) The board of education of each school district to which | 50 |
this section applies shall impose a fine of fifty dollars on each | 51 |
parent who fails to comply with division (C) of this section. In | 52 |
the case of a parent who has more than one child enrolled in the | 53 |
district, the board shall impose a separate fine of fifty dollars | 54 |
for each child for whom the parent fails to comply with that | 55 |
division. The board shall send the parent written notification of | 56 |
the fine. The notification shall inform the parent of the | 57 |
