A BILL
To enact section 4765.391 of the Revised Code to 1
permit authorized paramedics to administer 2
immunizations for influenza to firefighters or 3
emergency medical technicians.4


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 4765.391 of the Revised Code be 5
enacted to read as follows:6

       Sec. 4765.391. (A) The medical director or cooperating 7
physician advisory board of each emergency medical service 8
organization may authorize one or more emergency medical 9
technicians-paramedic within the organization to administer 10
immunizations for influenza to either of the following:11

        (1) A full-time paid firefighter, part-time paid firefighter, 12
or volunteer firefighter;13

       (2) An emergency medical technician-basic, emergency medical 14
technician-intermediate, or paramedic.15

       (B) The medical director or cooperating physician advisory 16
board of each emergency medical service organization shall 17
establish written protocols and training necessary for a paramedic 18
to administer an immunization for influenza under this section. A 19
paramedic administering an immunization under this section shall 20
do so in accordance with the protocols and training.21

       (C) For each immunization administered under this section, 22
the paramedic administering the immunization shall, not later than 23
thirty days after the immunization is administered, do either of 24
the following:25

       (1) Provide notice of the immunization administration to the 26
board of health of the city or general health district in which 27
the individual receiving the immunization resides or, if there is 28
no board of health for that district, the authority having the 29
duties of a board of health under section 3709.05 of the Revised 30
Code;31

       (2) Submit the immunization administration information to the 32
state immunization registry maintained by the department of 33
health.34
