Sec. 5907.04. Subject to the following paragraph, all | 6 |
veterans, who served during a period of conflict as determined by | 7 |
the United States department of veterans affairs or any person who | 8 |
is awarded either the armed forces expeditionary medal established | 9 |
by presidential executive order 10977 dated December 4, 1961, or | 10 |
the Vietnam service medal established by presidential executive | 11 |
order 11231 dated July 8, 1965, who have been honorably discharged | 12 |
or separated under honorable conditions therefrom, or any | 13 |
discharged members of the Polish and Czechoslovakian armed forces | 14 |
who served in armed conflict with an enemy of the United States in | 15 |
World War II who have been citizens of the United States for at | 16 |
least ten years, provided that the above-mentioned persons have | 17 |
been citizens of this state for one year or more at the date of | 18 |
making application for admission, are disabled by disease, wounds, | 19 |
or otherwise, and are by reason of such disability incapable of | 20 |
earningunable to earn their living, and all members of the Ohio | 21 |
national guard or naval militia who have lost an arm or leg, or | 22 |
their sight, or become permanently disabled from any cause, while | 23 |
in the line and discharge of duty, and are not able to support | 24 |
themselves, may be admitted to a veterans' home under such rules | 25 |
as the director of veterans services adopts. | 26 |
Veterans' homes may reserve a bed during the temporary | 32 |
absence of a resident or patient from the home, including a | 33 |
nursing home within it, under conditions prescribed by the | 34 |
director, to include hospitalization for an acute condition, | 35 |
visits with relatives and friends, and participation in | 36 |
therapeutic programs outside the home. A home shall not reserve a | 37 |
bed for more than thirty days, except that absences for more than | 38 |
thirty days due to hospitalization may be authorized. | 39 |
Sec. 5910.031. War orphans' scholarships provided in | 40 |
sections 5910.01 to 5910.06 of the Revised Code, shall be granted | 41 |
to children of members of the Ohio national guard and the reserve | 42 |
components of any of the armed services of the United States who | 43 |
are killed or permanently and totally disabled while on active | 44 |
duty pursuant to bona fide orders of the governor or the president | 45 |
of the United States, or who are killed or permanently and totally | 46 |
disabled while at a scheduled training assembly, a field training | 47 |
period of any duration or length, or active duty for training, | 48 |
pursuant to bona fide orders issued by a competent authority. Such | 49 |
scholarships shall be granted within the total number of | 50 |
scholarships provided under section 5910.05 of the Revised Code | 51 |
and are available only to children who further qualify pursuant to | 52 |
divisions (A), (B), and (C), and (D) of section 5910.03 of the | 53 |
Revised Code. | 54 |
