A BILL
To enact section 5.2267 of the Revised Code to 1
designate the month of September as "Craniofacial 2
Acceptance Month."3


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 5.2267 of the Revised Code be enacted 4
to read as follows:5

       Sec. 5.2267.  The month of September is designated as 6
"Craniofacial Acceptance Month" to increase public awareness of 7
craniofacial conditions and advances in medical treatment of these 8
conditions. 9

       Section 2.  In enacting section 5.2267 of the Revised Code, 10
the General Assembly hereby finds the following:11

       (1) Approximately one hundred thousand children are born each 12
year in the United States with a craniofacial condition affecting 13
the child's head, neck, extremities, or organs.14

       (2) Treatment of a craniofacial condition often lasts from 15
infancy to adulthood and it is not uncommon for a child to undergo 16
multiple surgeries before reaching adulthood.17

       (3) Most craniofacial conditions affect individuals and their 18
families physically, mentally, and socially.19

       (4) Many medical procedures have been developed in the past 20
thirty years to help improve the quality of life for individuals 21
affected by craniofacial conditions.22

       (5) The number of physicians specializing in treating 23
craniofacial conditions is very small.24

       (6) Many groups advocate on the behalf of individuals with 25
craniofacial conditions and encourage greater acceptance and 26
support of individuals with craniofacial conditions.27

       (7) Ohio is a leader in the field of treating craniofacial 28
conditions.29
