A BILL
To enact section 5.2266 of the Revised Code to 1
designate May as "ALS Awareness Month."2

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. That section 5.2266 of the Revised Code be enacted 3
to read as follows:4

Sec. 5.2266. (A) Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a 5
neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain 6
and spinal cord causing progressive muscle weakness and paralysis, 7
and eventually death, while the patient's mental capacity and 8
awareness of the disease remain unaffected. Because there is no 9
known cause, prevention, or cure for this devastating disease, the 10
general assembly finds that it is vitally important that the month 11
of May be designated as "ALS Awareness Month."12

       (B) The month of May therefore is designated as "ALS 13
Awareness Month" to increase public awareness and understanding of 14
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a disease that is commonly 15
known as Lou Gehrig's disease, and to encourage efforts in finding 16
treatments and a cure for ALS.17
