A BILL
To amend section 3727.06 of the Revised Code to 1
permit certain advanced practice registered nurses 2
and physician assistants to admit patients to 3
hospitals.4


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1.  That section 3727.06 of the Revised Code be 5
amended to read as follows:6

       Sec. 3727.06. (A) As used in this section:7

        (1) "Doctor" means an individual authorized to practice 8
medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery.9

        (2) "Podiatrist" means an individual authorized to practice 10
podiatric medicine and surgery.11

        (B)(1) Only athe following may admit a patient to a 12
hospital:13

       (a) A doctor who is a member of the medical staff,;14

       (b) A dentist who is a member of the medical staff, or;15

       (c) A podiatrist who is a member of the medical staff may 16
admit a patient to a hospital;17

       (d) A clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, or 18
certified nurse practitioner who has a standard care arrangement 19
with a doctor or podiatrist who is a member of the medical staff;20

        (e) A physician assistant who is under the supervision, 21
control, and direction of a doctor or podiatrist who is a member 22
of the medical staff.23

       (2) Not later than twelve hours after admitting a patient, a 24
clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, certified 25
nurse practitioner, or physician assistant shall notify the 26
collaborating or supervising doctor or podiatrist of the 27
admission.28

       (C) All hospital patients shall be under the medical 29
supervision of a doctor, except that services that may be rendered 30
by a licensed dentist pursuant to Chapter 4715. of the Revised 31
Code provided to patients admitted solely for the purpose of 32
receiving such services shall be under the supervision of the 33
admitting dentist and that services that may be rendered by a 34
podiatrist pursuant to section 4731.51 of the Revised Code 35
provided to patients admitted solely for the purpose of receiving 36
such services shall be under the supervision of the admitting 37
podiatrist. If treatment not within the scope of Chapter 4715. or 38
section 4731.51 of the Revised Code is required at the time of 39
admission by a dentist or podiatrist, or becomes necessary during 40
the course of hospital treatment by a dentist or podiatrist, such 41
treatment shall be under the supervision of a doctor who is a 42
member of the medical staff. It shall be the responsibility of the 43
admitting dentist or podiatrist to make arrangements with a doctor 44
who is a member of the medical staff to be responsible for the 45
patient's treatment outside the scope of Chapter 4715. or section 46
4731.51 of the Revised Code when necessary during the patient's 47
stay in the hospital.48

       Section 2.  That existing section 3727.06 of the Revised Code 49
is hereby repealed.50
