A BILL
To enact sections 2923.221 and 3701.051 of the 1
Revised Code to require the department of health 2
to conduct a study to determine and describe the 3
types of bodily injuries that can be incurred by 4
the user of a firearm and by others in proximity 5
to a firearm following the discharge of a firearm 6
and to require a person who sells a firearm in 7
this state to provide a copy of that study and a 8
list of all of the types of ammunition that can be 9
used in the firearm to the purchaser of that 10
firearm.11


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1.  That sections 2923.221 and 3701.051 of the 12
Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:13

       Sec. 2923.221.  (A) A person who sells a firearm in this 14
state on or after the date that is six months after the effective 15
date of this amendment shall provide the purchaser with the 16
following information:17

       (1) A printed copy of the study posted on the department of 18
health's web site pursuant to section 3701.051 of the Revised Code 19
that describes the types of bodily injury that can be incurred by 20
the user of the firearm and by others in proximity to the firearm 21
following the discharge of the firearm;22

       (2) A list of all of the types of ammunition that can be used 23
in the firearm.24

       (B) Whoever violates division (A) of this section is guilty 25
of failure to provide information to a purchaser of a firearm, a 26
felony of the first degree.27

       Sec. 3701.051.  The director of the department of health 28
shall conduct a study to determine and describe the types of 29
bodily injuries that can be incurred by the user of a firearm and 30
by others in proximity to a firearm following the discharge of a 31
firearm. The study shall be completed within six months of the 32
effective date of this amendment and shall be posted on the 33
department's web site. The director shall update the study and 34
post an updated version every three years thereafter.35
