To enact section 5.2296 of the Revised Code to 1
designate October 7 as Moses Fleetwood Walker Day. 2


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 5.2296 of the Revised Code be enacted 3
to read as follows:4

       Sec. 5.2296. The seventh day of October shall be designated 5
as "Moses Fleetwood Walker Day" in honor of the Ohioan who was the 6
first African-American major league baseball player under 7
contract.8

       Section 2. In declaring October 7 "Moses Fleetwood Walker 9
Day," the General Assembly recognizes the contribution that Moses 10
Walker made to the integration of professional athletics. Born in 11
Mount Pleasant, Ohio, on October 7, 1856, Moses Walker played one 12
season with the Toledo Blue Stockings and died in Cleveland in 13
1924.14
