WHEREAS, The United States has a rich tradition of extending 4
the promise and opportunity of America to immigrants who come here 5
legally; and6

WHEREAS, Americans recognize the contributions that 7
generations of immigrants legally entering this country have made 8
to the economy and culture of the United States; and9

WHEREAS, Immigration that is both legal and controlled allows 10
immigrants coming to America to assimilate into the culture of 11
their adoptive home and, therefore, more readily reap the benefits 12
available to all who reside legally within the borders of the 13
United States; and14

WHEREAS, The federal government, through lax enforcement of 15
federal immigration laws, has failed to protect our nation's 16
borders, our citizens, and our legal residents; and17

WHEREAS, The State of Arizona, to protect its citizens, legal 18
residents, and visitors, has enacted state immigration legislation 19
and taken legal action to enforce federal immigration laws; and20

WHEREAS, The federal government's failure to enforce federal 21
immigration laws and to secure the Mexican-American border has 22
burdened Ohio and other states with a proliferation of illicit 23
drugs and placed an unforeseen financial strain on local and state 24
governments; and25

WHEREAS, The rule of law has been, and should continue to be, 26
the basis of governance in this country; now therefore be it27

RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of the State of Ohio 28
supports the State of Arizona's right and responsibility to 29
provide security and stability for its citizens and Arizona's 30
efforts to protect its citizens, residents, and visitors by 31
seeking the enforcement of federal immigration laws; and be it 32
