Act of 2012. | 3 |
WHEREAS, Student loan debt has reached almost $1 trillion, | 4 |
and continues to grow as the cost of attending colleges and | 5 |
universities skyrockets; and | 6 |
WHEREAS, More than 382,600 students across Ohio possess | 7 |
Stafford loans, with disbursements totaling more than $1.55 | 8 |
billion; and | 9 |
WHEREAS, The average Ohio student graduates from a four-year | 10 |
college or university with nearly $27,000 in student loan debt; | 11 |
and | 12 |
WHEREAS, If the Congress of the United States fails to act, | 13 |
more than 382,000 Ohio students will pay more to obtain a college | 14 |
education; now therefore be it | 15 |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly, | 16 |
urge the Congress of the United States to pass S. 2343, the Stop | 17 |
the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act of 2012; and be it further | 18 |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives | 19 |
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the | 20 |
President of the United States, to the President Pro Tempore and | 21 |
Secretary of the United States Senate, to the Speaker and the | 22 |
Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, to the | 23 |
members of the Ohio Congressional delegation, and to the news | 24 |
media of Ohio. | 25 |
