To recognize November 2012 as Personal Health Care | 1 |
Month. | 2 |
WHEREAS, It is known that preventing disease can often be | 3 |
less costly than treating it after it occurs, and that early | 4 |
diagnosis combined with therapeutic interventions that are | 5 |
customized specifically to an individual patient can further | 6 |
reduce costs, shorten recovery time, and minimize human suffering; | 7 |
and | 8 |
WHEREAS, It is known that many of the chronic diseases that | 9 |
are consuming increasingly large portions of our nation's health | 10 |
care expenses can be prevented or more effectively managed when | 11 |
responsible, motivated patients, empowered by knowledge and guided | 12 |
by their physicians, take personal action by making healthier | 13 |
lifestyle choices for themselves and their families; and | 14 |
WHEREAS, It is also becoming increasingly clear that | 15 |
compiling and understanding the details of an individual's family | 16 |
health history can be a critical part of devising an informed and | 17 |
focused preventive plan of action to address the health issues | 18 |
that a person is likely to encounter over time; and | 19 |
WHEREAS, With the deeper understanding that each individual's | 20 |
unique biology revealed by a focused and personalized approach to | 21 |
health care may one day help us all identify the targeted wellness | 22 |
activities that will help us live longer and healthier lives; now | 23 |
therefore be it | 24 |
RESOLVED, That November 2012 is designated Personal Health | 25 |
Care Month; and be it further | 26 |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives | 27 |
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the | 28 |
