A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan Day.1


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble 2
background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and 3
advancing the public good, having been employed as an entertainer, 4
union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of California, and 5
President of the United States; and6

       WHEREAS, President Reagan served with honor and distinction 7
for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of 8
America. In his second presidential election, he earned the 9
confidence of three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 10
49 of the 50 states, a record unsurpassed in the history of 11
American presidential elections; and 12

       WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated 13
President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant 14
inflation and high unemployment; and 15

       WHEREAS, During his presidency, he worked in a bipartisan 16
manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and 17
common sense to government, which led to an unprecedented economic 18
expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and19

       WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social 20
policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and 21
drug use in our neighborhoods; and22

       WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces 23
contributed to the restoration of pride in America, strengthened 24
the country's values and those cherished by the free world, and 25
prepared America's armed forces to meet the challenges of the 21st 26
century; and27

       WHEREAS, Additionally his vision of "peace through strength" 28
led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the 29
Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for millions of 30
people; and 31

       WHEREAS, February 6, 2011, is the 100th anniversary of Ronald 32
Reagan's birth and the seventh since his passing; therefore be it33

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of 34
Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, recognize 35
February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan Day in Ohio and encourage all 36
Ohioans to participate in its observance; and be it further37

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 38
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the news 39
media of Ohio.40
