A RESOLUTION
Recognizing National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2011.

WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize May 6-12, 2011, as National Nurses Week; and

WHEREAS,  Established to raise public awareness of the value of nursing, National Nurses Week honors the vital roles nurses play in meeting the health care needs of the American people. Nurses rank first in honesty and integrity in the nation, and with this year's theme, "Nurses Trusted to Care," America's 3.1 million registered nurses are being acknowledged for their work to save lives and to improve the health of all those under their care; and

WHEREAS,  As the cost of healthcare increases, so must the importance of services provided by nurses dedicated to their mission. They have clearly demonstrated expertise, initiative, and leadership in managing and coordinating personalized and customized care of their patients, and we applaud them on their superb record of service in improving the well-being of their fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS,   According to research, advanced practice registered nurses can provide 60 to 80 percent of primary care services as well as or better than physicians and at a lower cost and that patients fared just as well when treated by nurse practitioners as they did when they were treated by doctors. The achievements of nurses are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on them and their profession but also on their communities; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize May 6-12, 2011, as National Nurses Week; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Ohio Nurses Association and to the news media of Ohio.
