A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate March 2013 as Career-Technical Education 1
and Skilled Workforce Development Month.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, The members of the 130th General Assembly of the 3
State of Ohio are pleased to designate March 2013 as 4
Career-Technical Education and Skilled Workforce Development Month 5
in Ohio; and6

       WHEREAS, Ohio has one of the most robust, comprehensive, and 7
successful career and technical education systems in the United 8
States; and9

       WHEREAS, There are ninety-one career-technical planning 10
districts, which include city, local, and exempted school 11
districts, as well as career-technical centers; and12

       WHEREAS, Every region of Ohio offers career-technical and 13
adult education programs to provide students of all ages with the 14
opportunity to pursue their educational passions and career 15
ambitions; and16

       WHEREAS, Career-technical education is a choice that students 17
make in order to accelerate their career goals; and18

       WHEREAS, Ohio benefits economically from the relationship 19
between career-technical education programs and local business and 20
industry; and21

       WHEREAS, High school students who graduate from a 22
career-technical education program are equipped with choices, such 23
as starting their careers, continuing their education with a base 24
of knowledge in their chosen field, or doing both at the same 25
time; and26

       WHEREAS, Adult students who take advantage of educational 27
opportunities offered through their local, publicly funded career 28
centers increase their marketability in the workforce; and29

       WHEREAS, Approximately one in four Ohio high school students 30
is enrolled in a career-technical education program; and31

       WHEREAS, In 2011, ninety-eight per cent of career-technical 32
workforce students graduated from high school, fifty-seven per 33
cent were employed, and fifty-eight per cent enrolled in a 34
post-secondary education program; now therefore be it35

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly 36
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, designate March 37
2013 as Career-Technical Education and Skilled Workforce 38
Development Month in Ohio; and be it further39

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly 40
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize that 41
career and technical education systems and skilled workforce 42
development programs are important to the strength and vitality of 43
Ohio's economic future; and be it further44

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 45
transmit a duly authenticated copy of this resolution to the 46
Association for Career and Technical Education and to the news 47
media of Ohio.48
