American Week."2

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, Native Americans have made countless contributions 3
towards shaping Ohio into the great state that it is today. For 4

burial mounds that dot the landscape to the names of towns 6
throughout the state; and7

history and culture of our state include those that were 9
indigenous to the region, including the Hopewell, Adena, Erie, 10
Shawnee, and Kickapoo, and others that migrated to the region, 11
including the Delaware, Miami, Ottawa, Seneca, and Wyandot; and12

WHEREAS, These tribes and their people have made an indelible 13
mark on the landscape, history, and culture of Ohio. Today, many 14
Native Americans continue to call Ohio home, living, working, and 15
raising their families here; and16

WHEREAS, Native Americans living in Ohio can be justifiably 17
proud of their rich heritage, spirituality, and traditions. It is 18
important that they receive encouragement from the state's elected 19
officials to continue teaching their culture to their children and 20
sharing it with their fellow Ohioans; now therefore be it21

of the State of Ohio, designate the fourth week of September as 23
"Native American Week," in conjunction with "Native American 24
Indian Day" on the fourth Saturday of September, to honor the 25
significant influence that Native Americans have had on Ohio and 26
to encourage the teaching and sharing of their culture; and be it 27
