Recognizing May 2013 as Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. |
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, May 2013; and |
WHEREAS, According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, there are about 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis diagnosed each year, with approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States already being treated for CF, and there are more than 10 million Americans who are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder that affects the intestine, liver, pancreas, and especially lungs, but due to medical advancements, today individuals with CF are living beyond the age of 40; and |
WHEREAS, CF was first identified in the 1930s, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been advocating for patients and pursuing a cure since 1955. In an effort to offer support and assistance to those who suffer from this disease, as well as to the families and friends of these individuals, the Ohio General Assembly proclaimed May as Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in 2005; and |
WHEREAS, By participating in local events in support of Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, Ohioans can offer their encouragement to those affected by cystic fibrosis. We urge all citizens to help raise awareness of this disease and make a positive difference in the lives of others; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize May 2013 as Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to the news media of Ohio. |
