A RESOLUTION
Honoring Sam Wharton on winning the Nike Nationals cross country competition.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Sam Wharton on placing first at the 2012 Nike Nationals cross country competition in Portland, Oregon; and

       WHEREAS,  This accomplishment is truly noteworthy, for Sam Wharton has clearly demonstrated his talent and perseverance, as well as his mental and physical fortitude as a long distance runner. As this year's Nike Nationals cross country champion, with a winning time of 17:06.5, he has exemplified all of the characteristics that are essential for success both in and out of the sports world, including courage, determination, and an innate sense of the principles of good sportsmanship; and 

       WHEREAS,  In displaying such exceptional prowess as a senior member of the Tippecanoe High School cross country team, Sam Wharton has earned the appreciation of his fellow athletes, the devotion of countless fans, and the respect of even his most determined rivals. Competition in athletics has enabled him to learn much about dedication and self-discipline, and we take this opportunity to acknowledge his exceptional record of achievement; and

       WHEREAS,  Long distance running is an event that requires exceptional stamina and natural ability, and Sam Wharton is to be commended for his commitment to this demanding activity. In attaining his athletic goals, he has consistently exhibited the skill and integrity that are the hallmarks of a true champion; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Sam Wharton as the 2012 Nike Nationals cross country champion and extend best wishes for continued success; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Sam Wharton.
