A RESOLUTION
Honoring Joe Jones as the recipient of a Carnegie Medal for heroism.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Joe Jones on receiving a Carnegie Medal from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission; and

       WHEREAS,  This prestigious honor is a fitting tribute to Joe Jones for risking his life in an attempt to save others. On the evening of January 30, 2011, he heard a multi-vehicle accident outside his home on State Route 41, and rushing to the scene, he pulled his truck onto the road with its flashers on to warn oncoming motorists. Approaching a car that had caught fire, he pulled an injured man who was lying nearby away from the flames, helped a woman whose legs were caught untangle herself from the burning wreckage, and then smashed a window with his fist to remove a baby from the back seat; and 

       WHEREAS,  Thanks to Joe Jones' extraordinary vigilance and valor, a family is alive that otherwise might not be, and the noble spirit and strength of character that he exhibited under crisis conditions are truly heartening to recall. In risking his life to help others, he has clearly shown a sincere commitment to the highest ideals of community service; and

       WHEREAS,  Joe Jones' brave actions serve as a reminder that altruistic behavior is not a thing of the past, but is a value that is demonstrated in daily life by people such as he. His unflinching composure in the face of danger has identified him as a genuine hero; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Joe Jones as a truly selfless individual and pay tribute to him as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Joe Jones.
