| Honoring Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton on her retirement as president of Cuyahoga Community College. |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton on the memorable occasion of her retirement as president of Cuyahoga Community College, June 30, 2013; and |
| WHEREAS, As an educational administrator, Jerry Sue Thornton has displayed a genuine dedication to attaining her myriad goals in a skillful and professional manner. Previously serving in various roles at Triton College and as president of the former Lakewood Community College, she became president of Cuyahoga Community College in 1992, and under her astute guidance, the institution has increased enrollment by forty percent, added a fourth campus, expanded its curriculum to more than one thousand credit courses, completed numerous construction and renovation projects, maintained a strong bond rating, developed partnerships with PlayhouseSquare and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and improved the CCC Foundation endowment. In addition, she has been active with such organizations as the American Association of Community Colleges Board and Council on Education, the Association of Governing Boards, the League for Innovation Board, and several community boards; and |
| WHEREAS, Throughout her more than forty-year career, Jerry Sue Thornton has clearly shown the potential of each person to have a positive effect on the quality of life in our society. Over the years, she has distinguished herself as a conscientious and responsible Ohioan, and she is truly deserving of high praise; and |
| WHEREAS, We are proud to note that it is through the unsurpassed efforts and deep commitment of diligent people like Jerry Sue Thornton that the State of Ohio continues to grow and prosper. To her credit, she has striven to advocate for higher education to the best of her ability, and we applaud her on her fine work; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton on her retirement and extend best wishes for the years to come; and be it further |
