A RESOLUTION
Honoring Joe Morgan on the dedication of a statue in his honor.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Joe Morgan on the dedication of a statue in his honor on Crosley Terrace at the Great American Ball Park by the Cincinnati Reds, September 7, 2013; and

       WHEREAS,  Joe Morgan is, indeed, deserving of this prestigious distinction, a fitting tribute to him for his numerous athletic achievements. During his twenty-two-year career as a Major League Baseball player, he became known for his hitting power, his keen batting eye, and his base-stealing ability, and as the second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds from 1972 to 1979, he helped the team win back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 and 1976, earning National League Most Valuable Player honors both seasons. In addition, he compiled five Gold Glove Awards and ten All-Star Game selections, and he was inducted into the National Baseball and Cincinnati Reds halls of fame, as well as having his jersey number retired by the Reds; and 

       WHEREAS,  Joe Morgan is a remarkable individual, for he combined talent and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship to become a truly exceptional athlete. He is certainly deserving of high praise; and

       WHEREAS,  Joe Morgan's outstanding record of personal and professional success stands as a hallmark worthy of emulation, and he has inspired countless people to excel in numerous areas of endeavor. The respect and admiration he has earned throughout his lifetime are clearly evident, and his accomplishments and leadership are a justifiable source of pride for him, as well as for his family and the Greater Cincinnati community; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Joe Morgan on the dedication of a statue in his honor and salute him as a fine citizen; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Joe Morgan.
