A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Declaring May 12, 2014 "National Fibromyalgia 1
Awareness Day" in Ohio.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, Millions of people in the United States have 3
fibromyalgia, a medical disorder for which there is no known cure; 4
and5

       WHEREAS, Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that causes 6
debilitating pain and fatigue in women, men, and children of all 7
ethnicities; and 8

       WHEREAS, Patients with this illness often have to learn to 9
live with widespread pain throughout their bodies, extreme 10
fatigue, sleep disorders, migraine headaches, and impairment of 11
memory and concentration; and12

       WHEREAS, Patients with fibromyalgia often have a number of 13
co-existing conditions, which may include chronic myofascial pain, 14
irritable bowel syndrome, temporomandibular joint disorder, 15
environmental sensitivities, anxiety, and depression; and16

       WHEREAS, Increased awareness and expanded knowledge of the 17
realities of living with fibromyalgia and its impact on patients' 18
quality of life will allow the community to better support people 19
who struggle with the challenges of this chronic-pain illness; and20

       WHEREAS, Early diagnosis and a multi-disciplinary approach to 21
treatment reduces severity of symptoms; and22

       WHEREAS, The National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain 23
Association; Kevin Hackshaw, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine 24
at The Ohio State University College of Medicine; E. Michelle Lee, 25
host of The Exceptions to the Rules radio program; and other 26
groups around the country have joined together to promote 27
fibromyalgia awareness and support; now therefore be it28

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly 29
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, declare May 12, 30
2014, as "National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day" in Ohio; and be it 31
further32

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly 33
authenticated copies of this resolution to the news media of Ohio.34
