A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To recognize the month of November as Ohio Adoption 1
Month to raise awareness about the need for 2
adoption.3


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, Every young person deserves the chance to learn and 4
grow under the care of a loving family; and5

       WHEREAS, We celebrate the adoptive families that have given 6
that chance to children and teenagers and stand alongside every 7
child still looking for the warmth and stability of a permanent 8
home; and9

       WHEREAS, Over 16,800 children are currently in Ohio's foster 10
care system and 3,782 of them have been freed for adoption and are 11
waiting for a family; and12

       WHEREAS, These children will wait in foster care for three 13
and one-half years to be adopted; and14

       WHEREAS, 1,166 youth were never adopted and have aged out of 15
foster care without a place to call home; and16

       WHEREAS, We must work to give more young people permanent 17
families and promising futures and encourage our friends and 18
neighbors to open their hearts and their homes to children in 19
need; now therefore be it20

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 130th General Assembly 21
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, recognize the 22
month of November as Ohio Adoption Month to offer a sense of hope 23
to children waiting for adoptive parents and to encourage Ohioans 24
to answer the call to find a permanent and caring family for every 25
child in need; and be it further26

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly 27
authenticated copies of this resolution to the news media of Ohio.28
