appropriate sanctions against Ukraine. | 2 |
WHEREAS, In November 2013, when President Viktor Yanukovych | 3 |
refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union, Ukrainians | 4 |
began to peacefully assemble and protest; and | 5 |
WHEREAS, Since November, hundreds of thousands of Ukranians | 6 |
have taken to the streets of Kiev to demand that the European | 7 |
Union deal be signed; and | 8 |
WHEREAS, The protests suggest that a courageous Ukrainian | 9 |
people aspire for a democratic, sovereign, and European-allied | 10 |
Ukraine; and | 11 |
WHEREAS, In response to the protests, the Ukrainian | 12 |
Parliament has passed laws that limit freedom of assembly, and | 13 |
restrict the media; and | 14 |
WHEREAS, In response to the protests, Ukrainian authorities, | 15 |
before the eyes of the world, have resorted to unnecessary and | 16 |
cruel brutality and violence; now therefore be it | 17 |
RESOLVED, That the Congress of the United States is urged to | 18 |
consider and implement appropriate sanctions against Ukraine; and | 19 |
be it further | 20 |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly | 21 |
authenticated copies of this resolution to the Speaker and Clerk | 22 |
of the United States House of Representatives, the President Pro | 23 |
Tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate, the members of | 24 |
the Ohio Congressional delegation, and the news media of Ohio. | 25 |
