A RESOLUTION
Honoring Debra J. McDonald as the 2013-2014 Ohio Teacher of the Year.

       WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Debra J. McDonald on being named the 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Department of Education; and

       WHEREAS, Selection for this prestigious distinction is an honor of which Debra McDonald can be proud, for she has been recognized for her exceptional skill, commitment, and professionalism. An early childhood education instructor at the Wayne County Schools Career Center for nineteen years, she operates an on-campus preschool to provide experience to students wishing to pursue careers in teaching, and she manages the district's Family Career and Community Leaders of America and Resident Educator programs. After chairing the district's Employee Performance Evaluation Committee to change the way certified staff members were evaluated, she served on the Ohio Educator Standards Board, developing the original rubric into the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System, and she now chairs the committee to implement OTES in the district. In addition, she has been active locally with the Wayne Association for the Education of Young Children, the Tech Cohort Committee, the Student Leadership Council, and the Goodwill Ambassador, Lead Mentor, Peer Mediation, and High Schools that Work programs, and she has also been involved at the state and national levels; and

       WHEREAS, Over the years, Debra McDonald has striven to channel the natural energy and curiosity of young people into meaningful inquiry, thereby helping them gain a better understanding of the complex world around them. By presenting lessons in an interesting and comprehensible manner, she has consistently inspired her students to excel, and she has certainly distinguished herself as a conscientious and hard-working Ohioan; and

       WHEREAS, Throughout her career in the field of education, Debra McDonald has supported countless students in their scholastic endeavors and has helped to nurture within them a desire for academic excellence. The recipient of numerous honors and awards, she has earned the respect and gratitude of her colleagues, her community, and, most importantly, her students for her genuine love of teaching, and she is certainly deserving of high praise; therefore be it

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Debra J. McDonald on her recent accolade and salute her as one of Ohio's finest educators; and be it further

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Debra J. McDonald.
