A RESOLUTION
Honoring Lloyd N. Barnes for exceptional service to our country.

       WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Lloyd N. Barnes for his exemplary military and community service; and

       WHEREAS, Lloyd Barnes is a remarkable individual, for he combined courage and dedication with tremendous strength and resolve throughout his loyal service with the United States Air Force. A fighter pilot who saw combat during World War II, he received numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, and a Presidential Unit Citation, and he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1949 to 1964, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He then served as an administration liaison officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1969 to 1994, counseling high school students about military service, and he received the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award from the academy in 1994 and was inducted into the Muskingum County Veterans Hall of Fame in 2002; and

       WHEREAS, Lloyd Barnes has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with the utmost efficiency and competence, and he has certainly distinguished himself as a patriotic and hard-working American. A retired employee of Cooper Industries, he is a volunteer with the Pioneer and Historical Society of Muskingum County and a mentor at Roseville and Zane Grey elementary schools, and he is also active with such organizations as Trinity Lutheran Church, Christ's Table, Muskingum County Behavioral Health, the Literacy Council, the Zanesville High School Band and Athletic boosters, the Zanesville Management Club, and the local genealogical society and animal shelter. Giving of his time, energy, and abilities far beyond what was required or expected, he has earned the respect and admiration of all those with whom he served and the gratitude of Americans everywhere; and

       WHEREAS, The heroic traditions of our armed forces are an important part of our nation's heritage, and Lloyd Barnes worked diligently to perpetuate this legacy. As he reflects on his military and civic service, he has the satisfaction of knowing that he provided a valuable service to our country and established a record of achievement worthy of emulation; therefore be it

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Lloyd N. Barnes for his outstanding military and community service and salute him as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Lloyd N. Barnes.
