Recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month, April 2014. |
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize April 2014 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month; and |
WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts everyone. Sexual violence, a term that includes rape, incest, sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, unwanted sexual contact, sexual harassment, exposure, and voyeurism, occurs when someone is forced or manipulated into unwanted sexual activity without consent; and |
WHEREAS, Across the country, it is estimated that one in five women and one in seventy-one men have been raped, and one in six boys and one in four girls will experience a sexual assault before turning eighteen. In Ohio alone, 41.2% of women reported a crime of sexual violence other than rape in their lifetime; and |
WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month can undoubtedly be a benefit to those who are survivors of such crimes, as well as to the families and friends of these individuals. It can offer them help, support, and encouragement in the fight to prevent sexual violence; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize April 2014 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio. |
