| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Sam Wharton on winning the 2012 Nike Nationals cross country competition; and |
| WHEREAS, Sam Wharton is deserving of acknowledgement for the formidable athletic gifts and the competitive spirit that he has so amply revealed throughout this past cross country season. A senior at Tippecanoe High School, he won this year's Division I State Championship and the Nike Nationals and placed sixth at the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego. Commendably, he has exhibited the skill, strength, and stamina that befit a genuine champion, and it is no surprise that he has won so many admirers; and |
| WHEREAS, Few sports embody the spirit of individual accomplishment more than cross country, and athletes such as Sam Wharton exemplify the qualities necessary for excellence in any sport, including discipline, agility, conditioning, and focus. Indeed, throughout long hours of practice and preparation, he has consistently shown the talent and motivation that are the hallmarks of a true champion; and |
| WHEREAS, Despite sometimes grueling pressure, Sam Wharton has consistently maintained his composure and morale in every challenging encounter. Time and again, he has risen to the occasion, amply demonstrating his unflagging determination, and he has set an example for others to emulate; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay tribute to Sam Wharton on his outstanding performance in national competition and extend best wishes for the years to come; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Sam Wharton. |
