S. R. No. 78

Senator Hughes

A RESOLUTION
Honoring the American Cancer Society on its One Hundredth Anniversary.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the American Cancer Society on its Centennial; and

WHEREAS, This is, indeed, an important occasion, and it provides an ideal time to acknowledge the exceptional work done by the American Cancer Society. Originally established as the American Society for the Control of Cancer on May 22, 1913, ACS has focused its fundraising toward cancer research since 1944, and it has engaged in an array of worthwhile activities and projects, including its efforts of prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer, which resulted in a reduction in the number of cancer related deaths by 1.2 million in 2012; and

WHEREAS, All those associated with the American Cancer Society, such as the volunteer who created Relay For Life, the largest grassroots fundraising event in the world, are to be commended for their foresight, dedication, and selfless donations of time, energy, and ability far beyond what was required or expected. These fine people have earned the respect and admiration of many and have set an example of concerned and responsible citizenship worthy of emulation; and

WHEREAS, Founded on the highest ideals of professionalism, the American Cancer Society has distinguished itself by its commitment to excellence. Through the inception of the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, it has maintained a reputation for integrity, reliability, and devotion to service, and the charitable efforts of its members are deserving of the highest praise; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the American Cancer Society on its Centennial and salute all those who have contributed to its success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the American Cancer Society.
