A BILL
To enact section 4507.062 of the Revised Code to
establish that any applicant
for a driver's
license, permit, or identification card who is
required to
register with the Selective Service
System is deemed to have given consent for
the
Bureau of Motor Vehicles to forward the necessary
registration information
to the Selective Service
System and to require the Bureau to submit the
applicable information to the Selective Service
System.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 4507.062 of the Revised Code be
enacted to read as
follows:
Sec. 4507.062.
(A)
As used in this section, "license"
includes a driver's
license, commercial driver's license,
temporary instruction permit, or
identification card.
(B)
Any person who is required to register with the
selective
service system in accordance with the "Military
Selective
Service Act of 1967," 81 Stat. 100, 50 U.S.C.
App. 451
et seq., as amended, upon submission of an application for
issuance or renewal of a license is deemed to have given consent
for the
bureau of motor vehicles to forward to the selective
service system the
necessary information for such registration.
(C)
Upon receipt of an application for issuance or renewal
of a
license from any person who is required to register with the
selective service
system, the bureau shall forward to the
selective service system, in an
electronic format acceptable to
the system, the personal information necessary
for such
registration. However, the bureau is not required to forward the
personal information if the applicant indicates in writing that
the applicant
previously has registered with the selective service
system.
(D)
Every application for a license shall do all of the
following:
(1)
State that submission of the application indicates the
applicant's
consent to registration with the selective service
system, if so required;
(2)
State that if an applicant so required to register is
under age
eighteen, the bureau will register the applicant upon
the applicant turning
age eighteen;
(3)
Allow an applicant to indicate that the applicant
previously has
registered with the selective service system.
Section 2. Section 4507.062 of the Revised Code, as enacted
by this act, shall
take
effect six months after the effective date
of this act.
