BILL SUMMARY

·        Designates May of each year as "Nurses Month" in Ohio.

CONTENT AND OPERATION

Designation of May as Nurses Month

The bill designates the month of May each year as "Nurses Month" in Ohio in recognition of the hard work and dedication of nurses and their significant contributions to improving the health care of Ohio's citizens (R.C. 5.2230).

Legislative intent

The bill states (1) that the General Assembly's intent in enacting the bill is to acknowledge and celebrate the nurses of Ohio, (2) that, although nurses practice their profession in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, other health care facilities, physician's offices, schools, and even private homes, the contributions made by the nursing profession in the improvement of the health care system are sometimes overlooked, and (3) that the members of the 127th General Assembly therefore feel that it is vitally important that a month be formally designated as "Nurses Month" for the purpose of increasing public awareness of the role nurses play in the health and well-being of all Ohioans (Section 2).
