BILL SUMMARY

·         Requires the Director of Veterans Services to notify the Governor whenever the Director learns that an Ohio resident who is a member of the United States armed forces or National Guard has been killed by hostile fire.

·         Requires the Governor, upon receiving such a notice, to order the display and lowering of flags on the day of the service member's funeral.

Half-staff flags day of military person's funeral

Under the bill, the Director of Veterans Services must notify the Governor whenever the Director becomes aware that a person who is an Ohio resident and who is a member of the United States armed forces or the National Guard has been killed by hostile fire.  Upon receiving the notice, the Governor must order all state agencies and political subdivisions in Ohio to fly, at half-staff on the day of that person's funeral, the United States flag, the Ohio state flag, and any relevant military flag, if the state agency or political subdivision possesses such a flag.
