BILL SUMMARY

·         Prohibits county elected officers and their campaign committees, as well as candidates for county elective office and their campaign committees, from accepting any contributions from an employee of that county.

CONTENT AND OPERATION

The bill prohibits county elective officers and candidates for county elective office from accepting contributions from an employee of that county.  Currently, elective officers of political subdivisions and candidates for elective office of political subdivisions are prohibited from soliciting contributions from political subdivision employees they supervise; however, accepting such contributions is not prohibited.[1]

The penalty for knowingly accepting a contribution in violation of the prohibition is a fine equal to three times the amount accepted.  The penalty for unknowingly accepting a contribution in violation of the prohibition is to return to the contributor any amount accepted.[2]
