·         Designates October 13 as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day."

Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day

(R.C. 5.2266; Section 2)

The bill designates October 13 as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day" to raise public awareness and understanding of breast cancer that has spread through the bloodstream to other parts of the body.  The bill specifies that the General Assembly, in making the designation, does all of the following:

(1)  Recognizes that breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer deaths among American women and that the risk of breast cancer may be reduced through healthy lifestyle choices;

(2)  Considers public awareness of this devastating disease to be vitally important to increase early detection and reduce the loss of life to metastatic breast cancer;

(3)  Commends the efforts of Ohio's scientists and health professionals in developing new technologies and treatments for metastatic breast cancer and encourages them to continue these efforts and their search for a cure for this aggressive disease.
