BILL SUMMARY

·         Prohibits credit card marketing activities on the grounds of state institutions of higher education.

CONTENT AND OPERATION

Prohibited activity

The bill prohibits any agent or employee of a card issuer, or representative of a recognized student organization, from conducting any activity designed to encourage and enable students to apply for a credit card on either of the following:

(1)  The campus of a state institution of higher education, which is defined as the land and buildings that the institution uses for instruction or student services;

(2)  Any other property owned or operated by such an institution.

For purposes of the bill, "state institution of higher education" means the University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, Central State University, University of Cincinnati, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, Miami University, Ohio University, Ohio State University, Shawnee State University, University of Toledo, Wright State University, Youngstown State University, and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and any community college, state community college, university branch established under R.C. Chapter 3355., or technical college.

Penalty

(R.C. 1349.99)

Whoever violates the bill's prohibition is subject to a $2,000 fine per violation.
