BILL SUMMARY

· Transfers the power to appoint the executive director of the Ohio School Facilities Commission from the Commission to the Governor, and requires that any such appointment be made with the advice and consent of the Senate.

CONTENT AND OPERATION

Under current law, the executive director of the Ohio School Facilities Commission is appointed by the Commission and serves at the Commission's pleasure.  The Commission also fixes the compensation of the executive director.

The bill provides that, beginning January 10, 2011, the executive director is to be appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate.  The executive director is to hold office during the term of the appointing Governor and is subject to removal at the Governor's pleasure.  The Commission is to continue, however, to fix the compensation of the executive director.

The term of the executive director in office on the bill's effective date expires January 10, 2011.  Any vacancy in that office that occurs prior to January 10, 2011, is to be filled by the Commission for the remainder of the term.
