BILL SUMMARY
· Upon request of the licensee, allows a driver's license to include a notation that the licensee has suffered a traumatic brain injury.
CONTENT AND OPERATION
Current law establishes various items that must be displayed on a driver's license, including:
· The distinguishing license number;
· The licensee's name, date of birth, residence address, and county of residence;
· A color photograph of the licensee, a description of the licensee, and a facsimile of the licensee's signature;
· A notation of any condition that causes episodic impairment of consciousness or a loss of muscular control if the person has a restricted license because the person's condition is under effective medical control;
· Upon request of the licensee, a symbol indicating that the licensee has executed either a durable power of attorney for health care or a declaration governing life-sustaining treatment;
· Upon request of the licensee, a symbol indicating that the licensee is a veteran, active duty, or reservist of the armed forces of the United States.
Under the bill, a driver's license also must include a notation, in a manner prescribed by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, indicating that the licensee has suffered a traumatic brain injury, if the licensee requests the notation and provides documentation of the injury as required by the Registrar.
