Alignment of teacher preparation curricula with minimum standards for schools

Requires the State Board of Education's standards for teacher preparation programs to require that the curricula of those programs be aligned with the state academic content standards and the value-added progress dimension (R.C. 3319.23(B)(1)).

Requires the State Board's standards for teacher preparation programs to require that the curricula of those programs be aligned with the State Board's minimum standards for primary and secondary schools, as well as the state academic content standards and the value-added progress dimension (R.C. 3319.23(B)(1)).

Deadline for alignment of teacher preparation curricula

Gives teacher preparation programs until January 1, 2006, to make the necessary changes in their curricula (except for alignment with the value-added progress dimension) (R.C. 3319.23(B)(1)).

Deadline for proposal for career ladder program

No provision; retains current law.

Extends from March 27, 2006, to September 27, 2006, the deadline by which the Department of Education and the Educator Standards Board must submit to the General Assembly a proposal for a career ladder program for teachers (Sections 3 and 4).

Earmark for evaluations of alternative education grant program

No provision.

Earmarks $247,000 from existing appropriations in each of fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for the Department of Education to contract with the Center for Learning Excellence at The Ohio State University to provide technical support and evaluations of the alternative education grant program (Sections 5, 6, and 7).
