Detailed Fiscal Analysis

The bill modifies the high school graduation requirements related to American history and American government.  Under the bill, as under current law, students must complete one-half unit of each of these two subjects.  However, the bill also requires that, for students entering the ninth grade for the first time on or after July 1, 2006, the curriculum for these subjects include the study of the Declaration of Independence, the Northwest Ordinance, the Constitution of the United States, and the Ohio Constitution for a cumulative period of time equivalent to at least one-sixth unit.

Some school districts and community schools may need to update their American history or American government high school curriculum.  The cost of such an update will likely be minimal.
