Detailed Fiscal Analysis

The bill prohibits corporal punishment in all public schools.  Under current law, a school district board may adopt a policy permitting corporal punishment after studying the findings of a local discipline task force.  According to the Center for Effective Discipline, 17 school districts in Ohio reported the use of corporal punishment in the 2005-2006 school year.

As alternative forms of discipline are not expected to be more costly than corporal punishment, the bill does not have any direct fiscal effects on the state or political subdivisions, including local school districts.
