Detailed Fiscal Analysis

The bill requires the Department of Transportation to erect signs on state highways that display distance and directional information to indicate the location of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers, outpatient clinics, and community-based outpatient clinics.  All such signs are to conform to standards in the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs web site, there are five VA medical centers, three outpatient clinics, and 28 community-based outpatient clinics across Ohio, for a total of 36 facilities that would require signage.[1]  Equipment, labor, and materials costs for each sign are likely to be $400 more or less.  Assuming two signs were erected per facility, the total cost would be about $28,800 in FY 2010 ($400 per sign x 2 signs per facility x 36 facilities = $28,800).  The Department of Transportation may also incur costs over the years for maintaining and repairing these signs.
