Sub. S.B. 96

128th General Assembly

(H. Health)

Modifies the Senate-passed version's description of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, specifically by providing that ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord causing progressive muscle weakness and paralysis, and eventually death, while the patient's mental capacity and awareness of the disease remain unaffected.

Adds provisions specifying the following as reasons for designating May as "ALS Awareness Month":  (1) to increase public awareness and understanding of ALS and (2) to encourage efforts in finding treatments and a cure.
